The History of Redemption Series
Let God be true, and every human being a liar. (Romans 3:4)
The Genesis Genealogies
Genealogy is where the past and the future meet and communicate. Therein lies not only "the days of old and the years of all generations" (Deuteronomy 32:7) that Moses declared but also the process of Messiah's Birth prophesied as "woman's seed" (Genesis 3:15), and God's work of salvation. Among the numerous genealogies of the Bible, the genealogies in Genesis are particularly distinguished by their powerful revelatory nature. Thus it is hard to say that one comprehends God's work of salvation without understanding them.
The Genesis Genealogy is a product of the author's 50 years of ministry and Bible study. It is also written in a way that is easy for anyone to understand God's work of salvation that is present in the genealogies but prone to be overlooked while reading the Bible. Based on the devotional lives of people recorded in the genealogies, The Genesis Genealogy serves as a good guide to grasp the marvelous redemptive adminstration of God.
The Covenant of the Torch
“The Covenant of the Torch: A Forgotten Encounter in the History of the Exodus and Wilderness Journey"
Amid unprecedented attention from the religious and publishing world, The Covenant of the Torch: A Forgotten Encounter in the History of the Exodus and Wilderness Journey has been published. While The Genesis Genealogy, the first book of The History of Redemption Series, covers 20 generations from Adam to Abraham, A Forgotten Encounter covers the fulfillment of the covenant of the torch that Abraham received, that is to say the history from Israel's escape from Egypt to the settlement in Canaan. The covenant of the torch is a historic event in which the Israelites took four generations to return to Canaan after 400 years of enslavement in Egypt.
The Unquenchable Lamp of the Covenant
Pastor Abraham Park deeply moved the religious world at each publication of his book series of the History of Redemption; The Genesis Genealogies in 2007 and The Covenant of the Torch in 2008. In this year of 2009, the author does once again and puts readers in admiration with his third book -The Unquenchable Lamp of the Covenant subtitled The First Fourteen Generations in the Genealogy of Jesus Christ. The book begins with "God Who Is Greater Than All" displaying the panorama of the vast universe. Rev. Park claims that the agape love of the God is incomparably greater than the symphony of the universe that operates in perfect order and harmony. Considering that His everlasting love is only to save us, this unfathomably great grace of salvation renders us in a flood of emotions.
The author proclaim s that the genealogy of Jesus Christ is part of God's work of Salvation in which God, the creator "who so loved the world," sent His only son, Jesus Christ, so that the people of the world may "whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. He then reveals the redemptive genealogies by comparing the vertical records of 41 ancestors of Joseph's family in Matthew chapter 1 and horizontal records of 77 ancestors of Mary's family in Luke chapter 3. From a perspective of God's redemptive administration, he also provides the historical, economic, political , and religious settings of each important individual in the genealogies. He further enriched the book with the interesting definitions of characters' names, and the explanations of how the names affected their personalities, actions and roles they played in accomplishing Jesus Christ's redemption. At the end, Rev. Park clarifies how God's work of redemption pertains to the salvation of the society in which we live today.
The zest of this book is that it emphasizes God's autonomy and His work of salvation. It strictly relies upon the autonomy of the God: it shows that people in good faith and failures of people in disbelief are all within God's control. The book illustrates that the adminstration of God's redemption has never been discouraged or stopped but continued despite all hindrances and rebellions done by disbelievers, and that it eventually culminated with the coming of Jesus Christ. The author's theology is based on redemption and promise of the God. A conviction that the covenant of the God is everlasting one and that it will be accomplished whatever kind of challenges disbelievers raise is the highlight of this book.
God's Profound and Mysterious Providence
Pastor Abraham Park's fourth series of the History of Redemption series, God's Profound and Mysterious Providence, has been published, instantly becoming everyone's topic in the Christian community.
Appraised as explaining the genealogies of the Bible in the perspective of God's salvation, Pastor Park's the History of Redemption series show his tremendous strength of writing four books in two years: The Genesis Genealogies, The Covenant of the Torch that deals with Israelites' wilderness journey and the process of their conquest of Canaan, The Unquenchable Lamp of the Covenant that discusses the genealogy of Jesus Christ, and its omission of periods and individuals, and this year's God's Profound and Mysterious Providence. The series present to the Korean Christian community a distinct biblical perspective by opening a new horizon of analyzing God's work of redemption through the "covenant" and "genealogy."
According to the commentary by Dr. Yeong-Su Ye, former president of Hanshin University and president of the International Council of Churches and Ministries, the fourth book of Pastor Park not only systematically summarizes the chronologies of northern and southern kings but also offers prospects for God's redemption that God, the Creator, is the absolute sovereignty, providence and man's salvation. That is why this book is great one that makes us pour out delight and amazement as we come out of dark tunnel of ages. Dr. Ye goes on saying that the reason for Pastor Park's sufferings was the obstacles set by Satan that feared of this living stream of God's Word, and he realized that the God ensures that those sort never disrupt the way of His Word.
.As he delivers his congratulations to Pastor Park, Dr. Jae-Yong Joo, chair of the Theological Research Center and former president and professor of Hanshin University, likewise describes as miraculous the fact that Pastor Park consecutively published the History of Redemeption series with his charismatic leadership and power. Moreover, he states that it was because of Pastor Park's theological differences in methodology that he could realize the meanings behind God's redemption, and he feel indebted to Pastor Park as well as thankful of spiritual interaction he could have made through the book.
It is told that the author published the fourth book in two years, finished writing the fifth one and currently launched his journey of writing the sixth. Now that the four series have opened up the horizon in interpreting God's work of redemption and analyzing genealogies of the Bible, we hope that future volumes of the History of Redemption series continuously broaden that horizon and leave a large footprint on the Korean Christian community.
